For most customers, NetSuite AI Units are included with eligible user licenses at no additional cost. This update gives organizations greater visibility into AI adoption and provides a consistent way to manage usage as more AI-powered features become available within the NetSuite platform.

This allows organizations to use AI capabilities where they provide the most value without managing separate allocations for each user.

NetSuite AI Units are consumed when eligible AI capabilities are used to generate content, provide insights, automate tasks, recommend actions, or support business workflows. The amount of AI Units consumed depends on the specific AI capability and the complexity of the request.

NetSuite AI Units are included with eligible user licenses at no additional cost. Customers can begin using their included AI Unit allocation, monitor adoption, and purchase additional AI Units only if their usage exceeds the available allocation. 

AI Units are allocated based on eligible user licenses and subscription terms. Existing customers receive AI Units based on the remaining months of their current subscription term, while new eligible license purchases receive AI Units provisioned upfront for the length of the subscription term.

NetSuite's native AI capabilities are powered by a structured consumption model, but how does it all add up? 

• Upfront Pool Allocation: Every general access license includes 1,000 units per month, but NetSuite provisions your entire multi-year allocation upfront on day one (for example, a 10-user, 3-year contract receives all 360,000 units immediately into a shared company pool).
  
  
• Supplemental Expansion: If your team exhausts the shared balance early, additional capacity is available via add-on packs—starting at $120/month for 10,000 units or $200/month for 25,000 units.

• Pacing the Pool: Receiving a 3-year allocation on day one provides incredible initial flexibility. However, as teams naturally expand their usage—from quick text edits to deep conversational analysis and automated scripts—that multi-year pool can be drawn down much faster than anticipated.

How Do NetSuite AI Units Work? 

With pooled AI Units, organizations can apply AI resources where they deliver the greatest business impact. Each Sandbox and Development environment also includes its own dedicated NetSuite AI Unit pool, allowing organizations to test, develop, and explore AI capabilities without affecting production usage. 

Do Customers Need to Purchase Additional AI Units? 

While most organizations won't need extra AI Units on day one, daily habituation across departments changes the equation very quickly. However, exact unit consumption per query, report, or automated action isn't always fixed or predictable upfront—it's something to be aware of. NetSuite AI Unit cost varies based on task complexity, data volume, and document length. As these daily tasks scale, unit burn rates accelerate, making ongoing monthly add-ons a standard part of scaling. 

Which NetSuite Products Use AI Units? 

NetSuite AI Units apply to eligible generative AI capabilities across the NetSuite platform. However, not every AI-enabled feature consumes AI Units.

NetSuite provides visibility into AI Unit allocation and usage so administrators can understand how AI resources are being consumed. Customer administrators can view AI Unit information through: Setup > Company > View Billing Information 

Monitoring & Governance:

• Usage Dashboard: Shows who is using what features and how many units are consumed
• Transaction History: Detailed log of each AI task and its cost
• Notifications: Alerts at 80% and 90% usage thresholds
• Visible on Billing Information page for consultants and administrators
• Future releases: More governance controls to set limits and allocations by role/department

Important Limitations & Notes

• No governance controls in 26.2: Cannot yet set user/role limits or reserve balances
• AI unit consumption calculated after task completion
• Mid-term purchases: Priced at current SKU rates, not locked to original contract price
• Units don't expire except at end of contract term (typically 3 years)
• Role-based access: Only specific user types have access to AI features
